The Czech Republic will support care for premature babies in Palestine

On 13 April 2022, the Head of the Representative Office of the Czech Republic Mr. Jakub Šlosárek, and the representative of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Palestine Mr. Muhammad Jaradat, signed a contract to implement a small-scale project at the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem.

The Holy Family Hospital was established in Bethlehem near the city centre in the late 19th century. The hospital is run by the Sovereign Order of Malta, but it receives patients from all over the Bethlehem and Hebron governorates, regardless of religion. Established as a general hospital, since the early 1990s it has reoriented to a maternity hospital, specialising in high-risk pregnancies. The number of babies born here exceeds four thousand a year and, with the exception of the pandemic year 2020, this number keeps rising every year. The neonatal intensive care unit, the only one in the Bethlehem region, saves around 450 premature babies every year. Thanks to the Czech support, the hospital will now acquire neonatal monitors.
