Training on participation for Tubas Youth Council

Through an educational project, the Czech Representative Office supported the participation of youth in public affairs and urban planning of a Palestinian city of Tubas.

In cooperation with Tubas municipality, the Czech Representative Office implemented a project with the aim to develop the capacity of the recently established Youth Council in Tubas. The project is part of the outreach activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic which are linked to the Czech Presidency of the UN Economic and Social Council (2017-2018). The main theme of the Czech Presidency was public participation in decision making as it is one of the prerequisites for sustainable, resilient and inclusive societies. The focus group of this project reflected the need to empower the Palestinian youth which makes 30% of the adult population.

During the two day training, a Czech expert on participation, Mr. Tomáš Rákos, introduced to the Youth Council several modern methods of participatory decision making, data or participatory budgeting. The practical part of the training focused on procedurally guiding the youth group to choose the thematic priorities for the activities of the Tubas Youth Council for the next two years.

This project further strengthened the cooperation between the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah and Tubas, which has been evolving since 1996 mainly through the Czech development cooperation.
