Visit to Rawabi: A New Palestinian City

On Thursday, 31 October 2019, the Head of the Representative Office of the Czech Republic in Ramallah, Mr. Petr Starý, met with the leadership of the Rawabi Foundation, which is building a new Palestinian City on the West Bank in an area about 10 km north of Ramallah.
 

Rawabi is the first new Palestinian city to be built according to strict building regulations. In Rawabi, the street line, the height of the houses, the width of streets and pavements, the number of parking spaces, the construction of infrastructure, the location of utilities and street furniture etc. are clearly defined.

So far, about one thousand two hundred flats have been built in Rawabi and also a school for 250 children. The project includes a shopping centre, which is now expanding, and a number of opportunities for leisure, sports and, cultural activities. The final plan assumes that there will be six thousand housing units in Rawabi.

The total investment of this construction project is to reach 1.4 billion USD with the State of Qatar providing a significant part of the funding. During Mr Starý's meeting with the Rawabi Foundation, the leaders spoke of their interest in establishing economic and cultural cooperation with Czech companies and institutions.
