Join us for a presentation of the Czech Perspective on Future of Cohesion Policy after 2020

Since its accession to the EU in 2004, the Czech Republic has significantly profited from Cohesion Policy. Its current economic growth, the lowest level of unemployment in the EU or the state of the development of respective regions in the Czech Republic can be attributed, among others, to the money invested from ESI Funds on its territory between 2004 and 2017. The success of the policy in our country is an evidence of a well-functioning long-term system which should be further developer, not dismantled, post-2020. The countries, which achieved substantial shifts in their economies thanks to ESI Funds, ought to be further motivated and know that their investment needs and the needs of their regions are properly reflected also in the future MFF outlook.
In order to contribute to the debate, the Government of the Czech Republic adopted its first outline on the future of Cohesion Policy and its European Structural and Investment Funds after 2020 in September 2017. In its preliminary position, it places strong emphasis on Cohesion Policy being a key EU policy also for the future, as all the regions across the EU benefit from it. While this should stay so also post-2020, the strategic priorities and long-term objectives are key for deciding on proper course of Cohesion Policy on the ground. Building on shared management, the Czech Republic would like to contribute to a joint political commitment which would provide for the right balance between a limited number of carefully pre-selected priorities and the specific needs of the Member States and their regions. Our key conviction is that in order to provide for timely, precise and efficient investments, simplification of the delivery system of ESI Funds is a must.
