Background note on the seminar

Since its publication in early 2017, the draft e-Privacy Regulation has been constantly drawing the attention of many business sectors. While most of the public discussions focused on cookies and other well-known issues, the relation of the prospective legislation to machine-to-machine communication and to the Internet of Things has been left almost untouched.

The seminar brings together officials of the EU institutions and representatives of the business community. Our aim is to facilitate the discussion on whether and how would the draft e-Privacy Regulation affect the industrial world, namely the M2M communications and IoT, and what is the interplay of the draft e-Privacy Regulation with other legal instruments. Are there any barriers emerging from the above, and if yes, what is their nature and magnitude? We hope for a lively discussion based on the input coming from the audience.
