Václav Havel European Dialogues, Europe 1989-2019: How to sustain the path towards Europe Whole and Free?

On November 20, the 7th edition of the "Václav Havel European Dialogues" conference took place in the House of European History in Brussels. The event was co-organized by the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the European Union, the Václav Havel Library, the Czech Embassy in Belgium and the Czech Centre in Brussels.

The conference, entitled "Europe 1989-2019: How to sustain the path towards Europe Whole and Free?" analysed the transformation of Europe thirty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Velvet Revolution and indicated the work that is still ahead of us. The aim of this project is to stimulate debate and to help develop relationships among countries, institutions and citizens.

The opening remarks were held by Czech Ambassador to Belgium Pavel Klucký and the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the European Union Jakub Dürr. First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans, Members of the European Parliament Marek Belka, Michal Šimečka Nathalie Loiseau and Alexandr Vondra, as well as the RFE/RL President and CEO Jamie Fly were among the speakers of the conference, divided into two panels. The discussion was moderated by Michael Žantovský, Executive Director of the Václav Havel Library.
