Elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic 2021

On 31 December 2020, the decision of the President of the Czech Republic announcing the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic was published under No. 611/2020 Coll. The elections will take place on Friday, October 8, and on Saturday, October 9, 2021.

Elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic take place in constituencies in the Czech Republic and in special constituencies abroad. The place of elections abroad is usually the embassy of the Czech Republic.

Abroad, in a special constituency, it is possible to vote, either if the voter is registered in a special electoral list (maintained by the embassy of the Czech Republic) or on a voting card. The issue of a voting card must be applied for at the place where the voter is registered according to his / her permanent residence. On the other hand, voters registered in a special voting list kept at the Embassy, if they choose to vote in the Czech Republic, must apply for a voter card, or they have to be removed from the special voter list within the set deadlines (see below). The confirmation of deletion is then either sent to the office respective to the constituency in the Czech Republic (according to the place of permanent residence), or it is submitted directly to the election committee on Election Day.

At present, intensive negotiations are still taking place in the Czech Republic on whether or not there will be an amendment to the Act on Elections to the Parliament of the Czech Republic, which would enable correspondence voting. In case of this major change, the Embassy will publish the updated information.

Deadlines concerning the announced elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic:

From the announcement of the election, it is possible to apply for registration in a special list of voters (kept at the Embassy); voters on this list can also apply for a voting card.
