Concert of Canto Children's Choir from Art School of Náchod

On September 8, 2017, a children's choir Canto from Náchod visited Riga.

Canto choir was founded as a chamber vocal community in 2003 for teenagers  at Náchod Art School. Under the leadership of Zbyněk Mokrejš the chamber choir became a full-fledged children's choir.
Among the choir's successes are several unconditional  victories at the regional show in Hradec Králové, the golden Vítězslav Novák's Prize award at the national competition in Skuteč, silver award at the International Children's Choir Festival in Pardubice and the Golden Laurel at the National Song Festival in Olomouc. The title of "Absolute Winner" is the biggest achievement the choir got at the Porta Musicae nationwide competition in Novy Jičín in 2016.

On September 8, 2017, the children's choir Canto from Náchod visited Riga. At the beginning of the tour the choir members with their choirmaster and director of the Náchod Primary School  Mr. Zbyněk Mokrejš, Mrs. Oksana Ciporenko and a delegation from the Municipal Authority of Náchod (Deputy Mayor Miroslav Brát, Bc. Pavel Schuma from the Department of Social Affairs and Education, the representative of the Municipal Administration and Director of the Comenius Primary School František Majer, Petr Jirásek, Mark Dvorský and Sabina Matoulková from the Department of Culture) were welcomed by the representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga.
After a tour over the historic center of Riga, the Canto group performed their concert at the City Hall of Riga. The children sang Czech and Slovak folk songs as well as aria from The Bartered Bride opera. The guests enjoyed the Latvian folk song and „Baba yetu“.  On the second day  the choir  performed in the partner city of Bauska within the traditional September festival.
The performance of the Canto ensemble in Riga City Hall was greeted  with great  interest by the members of the Latvian - Czech society, guests from the diplomatic corps, guests and residents of Riga.
