On January 12, 2017, the Embassy of the Czech Republic hosted the presentation of the translated edition of Pavel Kohout book The Hangwoman. The book was translated by Sandra Nikuļceva and published by the publishing house "Jumava".

Ambassador of the Czech Republic Mr. Miroslav Koseks in his opening speech thanked the members of the Latvian - Czech association, representatives of the Slovak embassy and Faculty of Humanities of Latvian University, as well as the author of the translation and the publishing house.

Then, Mr. Juris Visockis, the board member of the publishing house "Jumava" continued the presentation by his speech. Anna Pavlovska, the executive editor spoke about the specifics of Latvian translation of the book. The quests also enjoyed the reading of book’s fragments in Latvian and Czech languages.

We are pleased that thanks to Sandra Nikuļceva and publishing house "Jumava", the Latvian readers have the opportunity to get acquainted with one of Pavel Kohout’s masterpieces.

We guess that the totalitarian environment depicted in the novel The Hangwoman and from which the Kohout’s absurd novel arose, unfortunately, is understandable and well known to Latvian reader.
