Mixed Choir Janáček in Latvia

On July 3, 2017, Janáček choir from Jablonec nad Nisou visited the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga as a part of their concert tour in Latvia.

During their Latvia‘s tour, on Wednesday, July 5 together with a local band the choir group will give a concert in the Factory Church of St. Savior in Riga and will visit also the Rundale Castle, Kemeri Park and Siguldu Castle.

The Czech musicians began their tour with small concert to the representatives of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga and Latvian - Czech Society members in representative premises of the embassy, ​​where they performed their repertoire (e.g. White Flowers on the Way (Květiny bílé  po cestě), Prayer for Water by Jiří Pavlica (Modlitbu za vodu Jiřího Pavlici), Hat In the Bushes (Klobouk ve křoví), Ezop and the Ant (Ezop a brabenec) and  the arias from the Bartered Bride by B. Smetana - Let's rejoice and be merry (Proč bychom se netěšil). During the friendly meeting the guests were introduced not only the ensemble, but also their city - Jablonec nad Nisou.

Jablonec nad Nisou is famous by its glass, jewelery, sports and also music traditions. While speaking about the professional and amateur scenes, there are many excellent musicians of the top level here which undoubtedly include the members of mixed choir Janáček.

The choir has also represented the Czech Republic abroad, both  in European countries and overseas, where it sacceeded in the winning of the valuable trophies. The choir  has also performed with prestigious musical ensembles - the Hradec Králové Philharmonic Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of the Lower Silesia Philharmonic of Jelena Hora. Janáček has been performing abroad since 1964, has traveled through 20 European countries and performed twice in the USA. The choir maintains numerous contacts with other European choirs. The choir‘s chronicle includes the records of 400 performances in 80 locations in the Czech Republic, Europe and the USA.

Janáček group has a rich repertoire which contains the compositions of various artistic directions ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary authors, from spiritual music to the great opera choirs and adaptations of Czech and foreign folk songs.
