Choral Association of Moravian Teachers in Riga

On August 10, 2018, Czech Ambassador Miroslav Kosek welcomed the Choral Association of Moravian Teachers (PSMU) in the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga; they came to Latvia after a successful participation in the International festival Singing World in St. Petersburg and a performance in Estonia.

PSMU was founded by the students and graduates of the Pedagogical High School of Kroměříž in 1903 as a male choir, characterized by modern choral interpretation, confident technical perfection and stylish refinement. The choir leans on progressive dramaturgy, advanced vocal culture, and absolute cadenza. Since its beginning, the Choral Association has been cooperating with Leoš Janáček. Thanks to stylistic and content sophistication and the advanced vocal culture of the choir, Janáček's demanding choral compositions are still a part of the PSMU repertoire (source: http://www.psmu.cz/hist-cz.html).
In the evening of the same day, the choir performed in Riga Lutheran St. Gertrude New Church under the direction of Jiří Šimáček. That evening repertoire included: J. G. Handl: Haec Dies; Resonet in Laudibus; O magnum mysterium; T. L. Vitoria: Duo Seraphim; G. P. Palestrina: Pueri Hebraeorum; B. Smetana: The Prayer; Leoš Janáček: Veni sancte; Ave Maria; F. Biebl: Ave Maria; P. Janczak: Miserere; P. Česnokov: Rejoice, Salvation!; F. M. Bartholdy: Beati mortui; J. B. Foerster: St. Václav.

The magnificent singing performance was awarded by great applause of more than two hundred people’s audience: members of cultural and political public, the diplomatic corps and the Latvian-Czech society.
