The opening of the exhibition " Claire Beck-Loos, the Witness of one Era"

On Wednesday, 16 May 2018, the opening of the exhibition "Claire Beck-Loos, the Witness of one Era" was opened. The exhibition was prepared by the Center of West Bohemian Writers in cooperation with the Riga Museum „Jews in Latvia“ and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga.

The opening ceremony launched by Czech ambassador Miroslav Kosek was honoured by  the representatives of diplomatic corps, the Latvian Parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Culture, the Latvian-Czech Society, the students and other public and was met with a great interest. The author of the exhibition Mr. David Růžička made a presentation of the exhibition, describing the personality of Claire Beck-Loos and architect Adolf Loos. The director of the Museum Ilja Lensky appreciated the collaboration and good mutual and cultural relations between Latvia and the Czech Republic. Mrs. Markéta Čekanová from the West Bohemian Writers' Center also attended the opening ceremony.

 

The exhibition is dedicated to the Pilsen native, the wife of architect Adolf Loos, whose life way was seized 75 years ago in a concentration camp in Riga. The exhibition shows not only the Adolf Loos's everyday life, and with a number of valuable details about Loos's architectural realizations we can watch another important personalities like Thomas Mann, E. M. Remarque, Charlie Chaplin, Josef Svatopluk Machar, etc., whom he met in his life. The exhibition also displays the most important projects of A. Loos, including Müller's villa in Prague, the Pilsen interiors and the still unpublished photographs from the private archive of American relatives of Claire Beck-Loos.

 

The presentation of the exhibition in Riga was successful thanks to Mrs. Markéta Čekanová from the Center for Western Bohemian Writers, the author of the exhibition Mr. David Růžička, the director of the museum Mr. Ilja Lensky and the Executive Director of the Jewish community Mrs. Gita Umanovska.

The exhibition will last until May 31, 2018.
