The Choir Association Martinů from Třinec (PSM) was founded in 1955 by Jindřich Sedlák as a group of Třinec ironworkers. After 10 years of activity, the ensemble adopted a new official name Martinů Třinec, which best describes the choir's character. For nearly 50 years, the choir was conducted by Václav Štývar, under whose leadership the PSM has won many awards both in the Czech Republic and abroad. From 2001 to 2005 the choir was conducted by Mgr. Daniela Slawińska. After her leave, the choirmaster baton passed to MgA. Michal Zátopek, a graduate of the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava and the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava. In the evening of August 8, in Riga's New Church of St. Gertrude the choir performed with the choirmaster Michal Zatopek. The concert included following compositions: Gloria Musico by Jan Míšek, Lascia ch´io pianga by Georg Friedrich Händl, Missa Festiva: Gloria, Sanctus by John Leavitt, The Ground by Oly Gjeil, Cantate Domino by Ko Matsuhity, Lamentations of Jeremiah by Z. Randall Stroop, An Irish Blessing by James E. Moore, Prjekrasnoje daljoko by D. Tron, Slavíkovský polečko by Antonin Dvorak, Šípek and Hymnus by Otmar Mácha. Pavel Duda accompanied the piano.

The excellent singing performance was met with great applause from the representatives of local cultural and public life, the diplomatic corps and the members of Latvian-Czech society.
