Presentation of the facsimile edition of Jiří Holík's book in the Latvian Turaida Museum

On November 10, 2022, the Turaida Museum organized a scientific-practical conference and the opening of a facsimile edition of the book "Vereinigter Liff- und Aus-Ländischer Garten-Bau" (United Vidzeme and Foreign Gardening) by the seventeenth-century Czech exile, clergyman, and gardener Jiří Holík. The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Latvia, Mrs. Jana Hynková, also spoke at the event.

In 1684, the book "Vereinigter Liff- und Aus-Ländischer Garten-Bau" ("United Vidzeme and Foreign Gardening") by Czech researcher and gardener Jiří (George) Holík was published in Riga by Johann Georg Wilke's printing house. The book became a bestseller and saw 20 more reprints, but only two copies of the first edition of this rare book are known in the Baltics, one of which is retained in the collection of Turaida Museum.

In 2022, thanks to the project of the Turaida Museum a facsimile edition of the book saw the light of day, the complete set of this edition also contains a booklet with a text adaptation in modern German, including a translation into Latvian and English. The author of the Latvian translation is Edgars Ceske, historian and chief specialist of the Turaida Museum.
