Visit of the Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka to Latvia

On 5-6 November, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Bohuslav Sobotka visited Latvia, where he participated at 16 + 1 summit.
 

On November 5, besides the main program, the Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met with the Prime Minister of Latvia Maris Kučinskis and discussed with him, among others, both countries co-operation in economic and security fields. That same day, he also held the bilateral talks with Prime Ministers of Macedonia, Croatia and China. On Sunday, November 6, the Prime Minister met with the President of the Serbian government.

During the second day of the visit, the Prime Minister visited the historic center of Riga; the delegation also visited the Castle of Bauska in Southern Latvia. The delegation was welcomed at the Castle of Bauska by Mr. Maris Skanis, Director of the museum, and Mr. Raitis Ᾱbelnieks, Mayor of Bauska town. The Prime Minister and other high guests, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. L. Kaucký, MP and Mayor of Nachod town Mr. J. Birke enjoyed the tour and the castle collections, in particular the evidences of twenty years of castle restoration works by the Czech restorers. The tour over the castle also included the exhibition "Charles IV, the Czech King and Holy Roman Emperor". The exhibition, which was prepared by Czech National Museum, was installed to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the birth of the Charles IV.

Nachod and Bauska are the twinned towns for 10 years and cooperate very actively, especially in the field of culture. Member of the delegation Mayor of Nachod and parliamentarian Mr. J. Birke met here with his counterpart Mayor of the town of Bauska Mr. Raitis Ᾱbelnieks, and they discussed future joint cultural projects of both partner cities. Some of the projects planned for next year will be carried out under the auspices of Czech Embassy in Riga.
