Ambassador of the Czech Republic Hosted the Presentation of the Book “Kas es esmu" by Valdis Zatlers.

On March 23, 2017 the Czech Embassy in Riga hosted the presentation of the book of former Latvian President Mr. Valdis Zatlers "Kas es esmu" (Who Am I), which was published in Latvian and Russian ("Вот кто я!") languages.

Ambassador Miroslav Kosek welcomed the guests from the diplomatic corps and expressed his satisfaction that the presentation of the book of former Latvian president took place exactly on the floor of the Czech Embassy in Latvia.

Mr. Valdis Zatlers narrated about his book. He said that we all live our lives, and not every one had a chance to be a president. He placed the question of how one should exercise the functions of the head of a state to the utmost and what should be most important. Valdis Zatlers spoke mainly about the time he served as President (2007 - 2011), mostly focusing on his work, revealing the backstage of the head of a state.

All events described in the book are experienced and felt by him itself.

The memoirs of a famous Latvian physician and later known as Latvian President were also published in Russian. The Russian version it is not a literal translation into Latvian. As Mr Zatlers underlined in the discussion, even the titles of the book differ. While in Latvian, the title sounds like "Who Am I ", in Russian it is "Look Who Am I!". He stresses in Russian version: "I had a unique opportunity to overlook my life through the lens of details and halftones how our cultures and languages differ".

Then, there followed the debates about the current challenges of the world, European and Latvian politics, where Mr. Valdis Zatlers presented himself as great euro-optimist and supporter of the idea of a united Europe, which, he said, is not suffering a crisis, but faces the regular challenges from which it would come out clearly strengthened.
