47th International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice 2019 in Riga

On 29 October 2019, the Embassy of the Czech Republic held a traditional award ceremony of the 47th International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice (ICEFA) at the Riga City Hall.

In 2019, it will have been 150 years since the world saw for the first time Mendeleyev’s Periodic Table of Elements, one of the pillars of modern chemistry. Therefore, the theme, selected in cooperation with UNESCO, is something that pervades our lives, accompanying us wherever we go – from the soles of our shoes and the tarmac of our roads to the beauty of fireworks "Chemistry".

This year, 106 Latvian schools and individuals registered for the art exhibition. From schools and children's centers, 532 works, paintings, drawings, prints, ceramic and combined spatial works, photographs and short video sequences were brought to the Czech Republic for evaluation, the expert jury selected the 39 most successful, jury awarded 32 honorable mentions and 7 "Rose of Lidice” medals.

Ms. Marta Hušková, chargé d'affaires  of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Riga, the Executive Director of Riga City Hall Juris Radzevičs and the representative of the National Center for Education Agra Bērziňa opened the gala afternoon with short speeches. Then Ms. Marta Hušková awarded the winners with medals and honorable mentions .
 

At the end of the afternoon, Czech fairy tale “Three Wishes for Cinderella” by Václav Vorlíček was screened. The film was simultaneously interpreted by Halina Lapiňa.

This year, young artists and their teachers again confirmed that Latvia belongs among  the most important participants of the International Children's Exhibition of Fine Arts Lidice.
