In her introduction speech, the Ambassador thanked the Chairperson of the Society Mrs. Halina Lapiņa, and the Society’s founder Mr. Jānis Krastiņš for their activities, extensive translation work and for exemplary promoting of the Czech Republic in Latvia. In a friendly atmosphere, the members of the Society introduced themselves and shared their interest in Czech culture, way of life and their motivation to learn the Czech language. The Ambassador appreciated the contribution of all participants to the development of Latvian-Czech relations. Mrs. Hynková thanked Inguna Cepīte and the publishing house "Pētergailis" for publishing activities, which include the publishing and presenting of Latvian translations of Czech literature. She appreciated the contribution of Valdis Straumanis and Stefānija Zagorska for organizing tours to the Czech Republic and guiding services. As well, she thanked Ēvalds Ikaunieks, Sarmīte Leja, Eva Straujā-Lejniece and Jānis Lejnieks and others for their remarkable relationship with the Czech Republic and for spreading its good name in Latvia.

The Ambassador introduced the members of the Society with the Embassy's planned activities for the upcoming period, including 2021, when we will commemorate the centenary of diplomatic relations between Latvia and the Czech Republic, and 2022, when the Czech Republic will preside over the EU Council. She asked the guests to come up with their ideas and inspirations regarding the cooperation with the embassy.

The Latvian-Czech Society was founded in 1993 by Jānis Krastiņš, its first chairperson, who also is a laureate of the Gratias Agit Award 2015 by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
