New soldiers of the Army of the Czech Republic in Latvia

On Thursday, July 16, a ceremonial transfer of operational mission took place between units of 4th and 5th task force of the Czech Army, operating within the Enhanced NATO Forward Presence (eFP) in Latvia, at the Ādaži military base in Latvia.

The current fifth group form a unit, which consists of members of the 44th company of Motorized Battalion from Jindřichův Hradec. Besides soldiers from Jindřichův Hradec, the contingent also includes members of the 131st Artillery Division, 42nd Mechanized Battalion, 21st Tactical Air Force and 141st Logistical Support Battalion. The contingent is part of the NATO multinational force at the Latvian military base in Ādaži, about 45 km northeast from the capital city of Riga.

The leaving commander, Captain David Jeníček handed over the operational mission to his successor, Captain Jiří Pudil. Ambassador of the Czech Republic in Latvia Ms Jana Hynková, Military Attaché in the Baltic States Colonel Romana Pešatová and Commander of the Latvian Mechanized Brigade Colonel Sandris Gaugers also took part in the ceremony.

NATO member states agreed for the Enhanced NATO Forward Presence in 2016 and Czech army have been part of the enhanced Alliance since the summer of 2018. Czech soldiers within the eFP operate in Latvia under Canadian leadership.
