On Wednesday 29 June 2022, a symbolic handover of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union took place at the European House between France, which held the EU Presidency for the first half of 2022, and the Czech Republic, which will assume the honour on 1 July for the next six months.

The overall objective of the Czech Presidency is to contribute as much as possible to creating the conditions for the security and prosperity of the EU in the context of the European values of freedom, social justice, democracy and the rule of law and environmental responsibility. The EU must focus on ensuring security together with NATO and affirming the strategic resilience and competiveness of the European economy.
