Czech Ambassador lectures at the U.N. SDGs Youth Future Policy Forum

On July 31, 2021, Czech Ambassador Gustav Slamecka gave a lecture on the topic of ‘U.N. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Czechia’ to Korean youths at the 1st U.N. SDGs Youth Future Policy Forum, held at Seoul National University Global Engineering Education Center.

Organized by online education platform Gongmap, and supported by the Gyeonggi Sustainable Development Council and the Gyeonggi Green Campus, this forum was held with the aim to encourage youths’ support and interest in the SDGs and allow youth discussions for future policy. The forum was held in two parts with the online preliminary forum in March and the second and final forum held both online and offline on July 31.

In the lecture, the Czech Ambassador started by explaining the background of the adoption of the U.N. SDGs, followed by various official indicators and data showing the Czech government's efforts and related national strategies to implement the SDGs nationwide. He also introduced about the priority implementation task, “building a sustainable, resilient and inclusive society through the participation of all,” set during the Czech presidency at the U.N. Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in 2017-2018. By citing the SDG Index as the latest indicator, the Ambassador additionally shared that the Czech Republic is currently ranked 12th in the world with its implementation efforts, and explained the country’s future goals and directions through the Czech Agenda 2030.

The Ambassador said, “speaking at this forum will not only provide insight into the importance of the U.N. SDGs to the Czech Republic, but will also motivate young people around the world to move toward a more sustainable and inclusive future.”
