Exhibition Czech Heroines Presents Inspirational Women of Czech History

The Embassy of Czechia in Seoul together with the Czech Centre Seoul presents the outdoor exhibition Czech Heroines. The exhibition introduces the stories of inspirational Czech women.

The exhibition Czech Heroines introduces to Korean visitors interesting and colourful stories of inspirational Czech women figures, selected from both the past and present. The women did not give up on their dreams despite limited opportunities and various social challenges, but rather ended up leaving important marks and traces, as rulers, artists, politicians, scientists, and athletes, on history both domestically and internationally.

‘Czech Heroines’ brings portraits of fifty (50) distinguished and prominent female personalities as seen through the eyes of the contemporary wave of young illustrators - the students of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia, under the mentorship of a popular Czech writer and illustrator Renáta Fučíková.

The project was inspired by the 100th anniversary of the ratification of women’s suffrage in Czechoslovakia and the 200th anniversary of the birth of an excellent Czech female writer Božena Němcová. The exhibition was introduced online last year by Czech Centre Seoul and became physically open for visit this March in celebration of the month of International Women’s Day.
