Screening of the Czech movie „To See the Sea“

On 20 October, the screening of the Czech movie To See the Sea took place in Shanghai. Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Shanghai organized the screening in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Shanghai, which provided space for the screening.

The 2014 movie To See the Sea is exceptional not only for its story, but also for its directorial style – it is entirely told through the eyes of an eleven-year-old boy who directs and shoots his story. The movie tells the story of the eleven-year-old Tomáš who wants to become a filmmaker, and when he gets a camera for his birthday, he decides to make his first film – about his family and a friend. Gradually, we get to know his father, mother, grandmother, but also his friend Haris, who helps him with filming. Boys fool around and enjoy filming, but only until they find out that the camera can reveal things that are unpleasant - for example, the truth about their classmate, whom Tomáš loves, or that his dad is lying to him! Despite being afraid of discovering something bad, Tomáš decides to get to the bottom of it. Little does he know that he stumbled upon a family secret that has much deeper roots than it first seemed...

The screening of the movie was organized as part of the "Day of European Films" programme, under which a movie from a different EU Member State is screened every month.
