A) APOSTILLE

Apostille is a stamp given by a foreign authority verifying the origin of public document. Public document without an Apostille stamp is not valid in Czechia.

However Apostille procedure applies only for states who signed the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents, better known as the Apostille Convention. Apostille contains a title “APOSTILLE” and a reference to the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.

Singapore acceeded to the treaty on 16th September 2021, so in order to receive apostille, visit the website of Singapore Academy of law to make an appointment to which you bring the document you need apostilled. There is no need to visit the Embassy afterwards.

IMPORTANT: In the case of Singapore, the sticker with the Apostille must be ATTACHED DIRECTLY ON THE DOCUMENT that is apostilled (e. g. Certificate of Clearance, etc.). This is done EXCLUSIVELY at the Singapore Academy of Law - do NOT visit public notary to do this since attaching the sticker on the public notary's notarization does NOT notarize the underlying document.

REMINDER: In order to use your documents in the Czech Republic, they need to be officially translated to the Czech language.

B) SUPERLEGALIZATION

For countries that are not parties of the Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (updated list on the HCCH website), the document needs to be authenticated by the local highest authority in this matter (usually Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Then, the Czech Embassy in this country needs to verify the document in a process called "s u p e r l e g a l i z a t i o n"
