Starting of the Czech Presidency in the EU

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Singapore started the Czech Presidency of the EU Council with a live interview with Ambassador Michaela Froňková on the morning broadcast of TV Channel News Asia on 4 July 2022.

The next Presidency-related event under the Embassy banner is the EU Ambassadors' Lunch on 12 July, with the participation of H. E. Vivian Balakrishnan, the Minister for Foreign Affairs.

The key priorities and topics that the Presidency will attend to are:

1/  Managing the refugee crisis and Ukraine´s post-war recovery
2/  Energy security
3/  Strengthening Europe´s defence capabilities and cyberspace security
4/  Strategic resilience of Europe economy - strengthen our own production capacity and deepen of free trade with democratic nations
5/  Resilience of democratic institutions

Key topics:

1/   Defence and security of the EU - implementation of the Strategic Compass, reinforcing the partnership with NATO, and we will focus on cyber threats, fight against disinformation and security of cyberspace as well
2/   Coping with the refugee crisis and ensuring Ukraine´s post- war reconstruction
3/   Energy - the EU´s energy security issues, the diversification of sources, including logistics and energy savings and we work on the implementation of the regulations of the gas reserves - filling storages on the run-up to winter
4/   Resilience of democratic institutions - among others - strengthening freedoms and European values in both offline and online environments
