Signed Agreement on Revitalization of the Robert Gajdík Memorial

On 26.10.2015 Ambassador Miroslav Rameš and the mayor of the Centar Municipality Andrej Zhernovski signed a gift agreement, based upon which the Ministry of Defense of the Czech Republic will grant 60 thousand Czech crowns to the Municipality of Centar for settling the area, cleaning and complete revitalization of the Robert Gajdik Memorial in Skopje.

Robert Gajdík was born in 1923 in Zlín and lived in Skopje since he was sixteen (his father was employed in the Czechoslovak hydroelectric plant of the Matka canyon). During his high school studies he inclined towards the leftist movement and after the occupation of Macedonia he participated actively in the divertive activities against the occupation of Germany, Bulgaria and Italy.

In November 1941 Robert Gajdík was incarcerated by the Gestapo, but he managed to escape. Afterwards he joined the Zenel Hajdini partisan division which acted on the territory of today’s Kosovo. In the beginning 1942 he was trapped during the shootings at Lipjane and was publicly executed.

Robert Gajdík is considered to be a national hero in Macedonia. His memory is kept by the citizen’s association with the same name, as well as one of the city quarters in Skopje, where his memorial stands since January 1977.
