The Embassy of the Czech Republic organized together with the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, the Defence and Security Industry Association of the Czech Republic (DSIA) and the Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association (SOFF) a project called Swedish-Czech Defence Industry Day, which took place in Stockholm on October 12, 2016.

Swedish-Czech Defence Industry Day was held within a visit of the Deputy Defence Minister of the Czech Republic Tomáš Kuchta who was accompanied by a large business delegation. Mr. Kuchta held talks with the Swedish Secretary of Defense Jan Salestrand and representatives of Swedish defence industry.

An important part of his program was an all-day seminar Swedish-Czech Defence Industry Day (SE-CZ DID), which took place in the premises of the Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association. The event was opened by Tomáš Kuchta and Jan Salestrand. They both highlighted the importance of the Czech-Swedish defence industry cooperation, which should not be limited only to the Gripens project. SE-CZ DID was a unique project that helps to achieve this goal.

The Secretary General of SOFF Robert Limmergård and the VP for International Relations of DSIA Ladislav Šimek introduced Swedish and Czech industrial base respectively. Possibilities of further cooperation in the defence industry were presented by representatives of the Swedish companies SAAB and BAE System Hägglunds and the Czech companies AERO Vodochody and ERA. SAAB is often associated only with Gripens, but the company produce more than 600 different products. An example of a successful Czech-Swedish cooperation is the development and production of movable radars MADR (SAAB+ERA) or tracked infantry vehicle CV90 (BAE+VOP CZ + Meopta).

Almost half of the Swedish-Czech Defence Industry Day was dedicated to the matchmaking and to the B2B discussions. There were altogether 20 subjects negotiating – 10 on the Czech side (Aero Vodochody, BAE, ČZUB, ERA, Meopta, Omnipol, Ray Service, VOP, Cyber Gym a PwC) and 10 on the Swedish one (BAE, SAAB, PwC, Rud Petersen, MSE Engineering, Polyamp, Recotech, Scania, FLIR Systems, MilDef, CGI Sverige).

On the eve of the SE-CZ DID, the Czech Embassy in Stockholm held a reception in the premises of the Embassy. Among the guests were not only the representatives of Czech and Swedish companies but also of the Swedish Ministry of Defence, the Swedish Army and governmental organizations. A prove of the interest in Czech business is the presence of the Swedish Secretary of Defense Jan Salestrand and numerous representatives of Swedish companies.
