Studios, incubators and a university. Czech gaming companies gathered experience in Sweden.

Meetings with leading Swedish studios, a specialized school and a university, but also experience with the functioning of incubators and educational activities or participation in an important conference. Such was the programme of the mission of Czech game studios to Sweden, which took place as part of the programme to support economic diplomacy.

The main goal of the October mission of Czech game developers and gaming industry representatives to Sweden was to help Czech game development studios and gaming industry representatives find new contacts and business opportunities in Sweden. During the first two days, representatives of Czech game companies in Stockholm met with five Swedish studios, including leading game development companies Hazelight Studios and Resolution Games, which specializes in games with augmented and virtual reality. During the negotiations with the Swedish companies, specific topics of cooperation were raised: the publishing company Raw Fury presented the topic of possible publishing cooperation, and one of the largest Swedish game companies, Paradox Interactive, offered the possibility of cooperation through the recently established company Paradox Arc, which targets smaller game studios. The dynamic development of the Swedish game industry against the background of the development of the leading Swedish visual effects studio Goodbye Kansas Group was presented to the participants by its founder Peter Levin.

Schools for developers

The mission program also included a visit to examples of Swedish game infrastructure, game clusters and incubators East Sweden Game in Linköping and Sweden Game Arena in Skövde. The Czech participants of the mission were convinced of how effective cooperation between the university, incubators and game companies works in one place. In the field of education, there was also a detailed presentation of the professional game school Futuregames in Stockholm, which is negotiating with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm about the possible opening of its branch in the Czech Republic. In Skövde, the participants of the Czech mission also got to know the structure of the most important Swedish higher education in the field of the gaming industry at the local university and visited the Sweden Game Conference, where they established further contacts.

On the Czech side, a total of 12 representatives from seven development companies and game industry organizations participated in the mission: Perun Creative, Fineway Studios Czech, Pipedream, Bearer Games, Afluencers, South Moravian Innovation Center and Game Cluster. Sweden was represented by about 30 representatives of the local gaming industry. The programme also included a networking event at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm.

Clouds, streaming and e-sports

The mission participants appreciated that, thanks to the economic diplomacy project, they had the opportunity to meet the leading representatives of the Swedish gaming industry. This is of great benefit to startups and established Czech gaming companies, as Sweden is today one of the main centers of the European gaming industry, and this sector significantly advances the country's innovation potential in a number of areas. Following on from its exceptional position and dynamic growth, Czech companies are offered a number of opportunities, from investment and publishing cooperation, through the sharing of unique know-how, to the offer of promising job opportunities. Opportunities to establish cooperation are also emerging in sectors related to the gaming industry, in which Sweden is often at the forefront of world events, such as in the areas of cloud services, streaming platforms or very popular e-sports. Cooperation in the gaming industry is therefore one of the important industry opportunities for Czech companies in Sweden.

The pro-export and inspirational study mission was prepared as part of a project to support economic diplomacy, which was implemented by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Stockholm with the support of the Association of Czech Game Developers and the mirror Swedish association Swedish Games Industry. The Swedish side and the Czech mission participants highly appreciated the professional organization of the entire event. The successfully implemented project raised the good name of a Czech gaming industry in Sweden, supported the chances of the Czech companies to establish direct cooperation with Swedish partners and helped to share Nordic experience in operating gaming clusters and incubators and gaming education.
