Czech-Swedish cooperation in neonatology and pediatrics

The prestigious Swedish medical facility specializing in the care of pediatric patients the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm hosted a seminar on 30 September and 1 October 2020, at which the results of the project "International Mobility of Charles University Researchers" implemented by MUDr. Pavla Pokorná, PhD from the Department of Pediatrics and Inherited Metabolic Disorders of the First Medical Faculty of Charles University and the General Faculty Hospital in Prague were presented. 

During the seminar, the implementers of the project Jonas Berner MD, PhD and MUDr. Pavla Pokorná, PhD presented the information on painkillers for newborns and children in the intensive care unit to professional medical staff . With the participation of the representative of the Czech Embassy in Stockholm, Consul Ing. Irena Blehová, PhD, they discussed the need to establish effective mechanisms for European cooperation to share current knowledge in clinical practice between clinical pharmacologists and pediatricians in order to achieve the maximum possible balance between optimal drug administration and safety for the child's body in treatment of the youngest patients (including newborns) with Prof. Anders Rane from Karolinska Institutet Department of Clinical Pharmacology Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm and  with Prof. Dick Tibboel from Intensive Care and Department of Pediatric Surgery, Erasmus MC-Sophia Children's Hospital in Rotterdam. Jonas Berner presented the Swedish National Program for Evidencebased Database of Pediatric Medicines "ePed".

The aim of the project and the long-term work of doctor Pokorná is to enable Czech neonatologists and pediatricians to access the knowledge of their Swedish colleagues and to create conditions for sharing such important experiences with the treatment of the smallest patients in wider European cooperation. All this with the support of the project "International Mobility of Researchers of Charles University" from the Operational Program Research, Development and Education.
