(This article expired 31.05.2023.)

The Embassy of the Czech Republic hosted the first meetup of Czech researchers and academic professionals in Sweden. The vice-chair of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Professor Jan Řídký, also attended the event. Thirty five researchers and academics representing various fields and sectors arrived from all around Sweden to talk with Professor Řídký about the current state of Czech and Swedish cooperation in science, possibilities for future cooperation and opportunities for researchers returning to the Czech Republic after their stay abroad.

Vice-chair Jan Řídký also met the Chair of the Swedish Academy of Sciences, Mr. Dan Larhammar, who accepted Professor Řídký´s invitation to visit Prague. He also met the Director General of  Vetenskapsrådet, Mr. Sven Stafström.

The Swedish Academy of Sciences awards the Nobel Prizes for physics, chemistry and economics. International researchers can be nominated and elected to the committee that decides about the awards; however, the Czech Republic does not have nominated or elected members, which is something we need to work on.

Vetenskaprådet is a governmental agency responsible for distributing research funds and international agreements. General Director Stafström sees possible Czech-Swedish cooperation a great possibility, especially with regard to the Czech and Swedish presidencies of the EU.

In the last part of his visit, professor Řídký had the chance to get insight into the new project led by doctor Pavla Pokorná from Charles University concerning neonatal pharmacologic. The new project is a cooperation between Charles University and Karolinska Institutet and follow on previous successful projects between KI and KU.
