Reloaded! European Values

In the context of the Day of Europe, a series of events titled Reloaded! European Values organized by EUNIC Stockholm was launched in the House of Europe (Europahuset) on May 7.

Celebrating this event, the Romanian ambassador Iulian Buga (presidency of the European Council) and Czech ambassador Jiří Šitler (on behalf of the Czech Centre as the local EUNIC presidency in Stockholm) hosted the inauguration of the exhibition "Europe - Heritage of Humanists". The exhibition contains an introduction to a few magnificent and influential, yet unknown local humanists, selected within the network EUROPA HUMANISTICA under the lead of the University of Vienna and the Austrian Academy of Science. Humanists from Czechia are represented by the writers Bohuslav Hasištejnský z Lobkovic and Johanna Westonia. The exhibition will be open to visitors until the 17th of May. In his opening speech, ambassador Šitler pointed out the interconnectedness of European intellectuals in the era of humanism (15th - 17th century), appreciated the fact that also female thinkers were included, and noted that the humanist heritage of Europe was highlighted in the preamble to the Lisbon Treaty signed in 2007. Daphne Springhorn from the Goethe-Institut (which, in agreement with the Czech EUNIC presidency, coordinated the exhibition) introduced the genesis and purpose of the exhibition.
