Swedish – Czech Defence Industry Days

Czech Embassy in Stockholm in close partnership with Swedish Association of Security and Defence Industry (SOFF), Czech Ministry of Defence, Czech Associations of Defence Industry (AOBP) and Swedish Ministry of Defence hosted „Swedish - Czech Defence Industry Days“ in Stockholm from March 19 to March 20, 2019.

Czech business delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Czech MoD Jakub Landovský who had separate meetings with Jan Olof Lind, State Secretary of Swedish MoD and with Göran Mårtensson, Director of Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV).

Event such as Swedish – Czech Defence Industry is specific result of very close cooperation in defence industry between the Czech Republic and Sweden. This has been already the third meeting of Czech and Swedish Defence Industry. The first round hosted Stockholm in October 2016, and exactly an year later during the second round Swedish delegation and businesses visited Prague and Moravian cities Uherský Brod, Nový Jičín, Staré Město and Přerov.

Industry Day was launched by Deputy Minister Landovský and State Secretary Lind. Both officials stressed the importance of defence industry cooperation. Jiří Hynek, President of AOBP and Robert Limmergård, Director of SOFF presented defence industry base in both countries. Swedish Defence Material Administration presented planned military acquisitions and expenditure outlook. Tommy Gustafsson Rask, CEO of BAE Hägglunds presented a case study of successful mutual cooperation as BAE Hägglunds has several core partners in the Czech Republic (VOP CZ, Meopta, Ray Service, VR Group a Czech Technical University).

Almost half of the day was dedicated to matchmaking and B2B meetings. There were 9 Czech companies (VOP CZ, 4M Systems, Česká zbrojovka, SVOS, Gumotex, Agados, Ray Service, Omnipol, and Czech division of BAE) and 15 Swedish companies (SAAB, BAE Systems Hägglunds, BAE Systems Bofors, System Engeneering Solutions 37, Borderlight, Cervino Consulting, Rheinmetall Sweden, Leaf Supply and Services, Nammo Sweden, Adscendo, W5Solutions, CBJ Tech, MilDef, Flir Systems, and Hammar). SOFF launched on-line apllication for scheduling B2B meetings, so each participant knew beforehand how many meetings he/she has and with whom. Participating companies used full time of 2,5 hours dedicated to B2Bs.

Czech Embassy hosted a reception the evening before the actual event, which also served as commemoration of 20 years anniversary of Czech membership in NATO. Representatives of Czech and Swedish companies could informally meet with MoD officials including State Secretary Lind, Members of Parliament and management of FMV.
