The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Markéta Pekarová Adamová visited Sweden

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, completed an official visit to Sweden from 1 to 3 May 2022. As part of her program, she met with the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Andreas Norlén, and the Minister of Defence, Peter Hultqvist. The main topics were the forthcoming EU Council Presidency and security cooperation in the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine. The visit ended with a reception by King Charles XVI Gustav of Sweden.

A delegation of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic led by the Speaker of the Lower House, Markéta Pekarová Adamová, paid an official visit to the Kingdom of Sweden from 1 to 3 May 2022. The main item on the agenda was a working meeting with the President of the Swedish Parliament, Andreas Norlén, at whose invitation the trip took place. The topic of the joint meeting was mainly the parliamentary dimension of the forthcoming presidency of the Council of the EU.

"Václav Havel said that we should see Europe as a task. I therefore see the successful management of the Czech Presidency and its smooth handover to my Swedish colleagues as an important Czech-Swedish task for our common future. In any case, the focus will be on assistance to Ukraine. Be it during the war or after it, "said Markéta Pekarová Adamová, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.

A meeting with the Swedish Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist was also part of the work program of the House delegation. "Sweden is living a very intense public debate these days. As a result of the bloody Russian aggression in Ukraine, there is an extraordinary tendency within the Swedish society to break the two-hundred-year international policy of neutrality and join NATO. Personally, I would very much like to welcome such a reliable ally as Sweden among NATO member states soon. However, the debate on this topic alone must be a nightmare for Vladimir Putin," said House Speaker Markéta Pekarová Adamová.

The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies in Stockholm also opened the Czech Innovation Day seminar. The seminar aimed to help innovative Czech companies in the field of hydrogen and green technologies or electric cars to better penetrate the Swedish market and build new business partnerships within it.

The chairwoman also met with representatives of compatriots living and working in Sweden for a long time. "It is inspiring to see how many Czechs have succeeded in Swedish society. Although they work in various professions, everyone is proud of their Czech origins. I firmly believe that the enforcement of the correspondence election is the least we can do for them as Czech legislators," added Markéta Pekarová Adamová.

The official trip culminated in a reception by His Majesty King Charles XVI Gustav of Sweden. "The King took a keen interest in the situation of refugees from Ukraine and expressed admiration for the generosity of the Czechs who are helping those in need," concluded Chairwoman Markéta Pekarová Adamová.
