Visit of the Electoral Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic to Sweden

On 21 - 23 November 2022, the Electoral Committee of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic visited Sweden. The aim of the visit was to exchange experiences with Swedish partners in the main areas of public service broadcasting: ownership structure, financing, regulatory system and ensuring independence and impartiality of the media. During the visit, the Czech delegation also learned about the current trends in the Swedish media industry and visited the headquarters of the Bonnier Group, which brings together prominent Nordic media companies.
Sweden is one of the leading countries in the world in terms of freedom of speech and press freedom. It also went through an overhaul in the financing of public broadcasting. Additionally, it has one of the highest shares of digital media content in the world and a sophisticated system of governance and regulation. For all these reasons, the visit was useful and inspirational and will inform future work of the Electoral Committee, whose task is to legislate in the media sphere.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee Mr. Aleš Juchelka led the Czech delegation. The Czech Embassy in Stockholm prepared the visit and took part in the meetings.
