Night with Andersen in Melbourne

The weekend in the middle of March was dedicated to children. Another Night with Andersen was organised in Šumava, with plenty plenty of other activities for kids (and adults). Even though the weather was not in favour of outdoor plays and games, everything turned into a fairy tale finale.

Thanks to an amazing effort of Zuzana Vasitch, the director of the Czech school in Melbourne, her colleagues and wonderful mums and dads, the kids could enjoy a weekend full of games, surprises and wonderful reading. After the visit of Mr. Andersen on Saturday morning, a perfect hunt was about to be seen in a fairy tale wood full of fairy tale heroes. After remembering our King Charles IV, the children built a LONG Charles bridge according to the historical formula – full of eggs!  Only a while after that, more reading, theatre pieces and more games followed. During the evening the children introduced their favourite Czech books and the best readers – winners of the contest “Every day with a Czech book” were rewarded with wonderful Czech books.

A night in the wilderness would not be complete without a proper bonfire, and we had it! A bit of thrill followed – a night walk with a beautiful Night star in the end. Somebody was gathering courage at the beginning, but everybody found it in the end :-)

The ride went on on Sunday. Reading, reading and more reading… and a great game of the partner school in Perth – Birlibán. The kids were simply perfect, they were cooperating in filling the tasks, learnt a lot of news and had a great time. A delicious reward at the end of the morning in Bonbonovice was well deserved.

All the children, parents and I have really enjoyed the weekend. Thanks to the Czech school in Melbourne it is really great to see how the Czech kids speak the Czech language and what do they know about our country. Thanks go of course to the management of Šumava/Peksa park for making the Night with Andersen possible. I wish everybody lots of energy and enthusiasm for days to come and am looking forward to see you all again.
