Reception marking the National Day of the Czech Republic and Czech Presidency of the EU Council and "Voices of Women" exhibition

On Wednesday 26. 10. 2022 a reception took place in the NSW Parliament to mark the National Day of the Czech Republic and on the occasion of the Czech Presidency of the EU Council.

After the initial speeches given by the Consul-General of the Czech Republic Mrs Zuzana Slováková, Governor of NSW H.E. the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, and the Honourable Chris Rath MLC on behalf of the NSW Minister for Multiculturalism, Barbora Baronová and Amber Gaden, Managing Director of Tatra Offroad Trucks Australia, made some introductory remarks about the literary and photographic project that came about out of the collaboration of Czech authors Barbora Baronová and Dita Pepe.

The literary and photographic project „Voices of Women“ presents the extraordinary and inspiring stories of contemporary women from Australia and the Czech Republic. A profound example of one of these stories is that of Mrs Olga Horáková, one of the last remaining Holocaust survivors in Australia – who was born in former Czechoslovakia and emigrated to Australia in 1949, where she found her new home.

The portraits of many Czech women were displayed as part of the project - including film documentarists Olga Sommerová and Helena Třeštíková, journalist Petra Procházková and sociologist Marcela Linková, to name a few.

The event was made possible by the generous financial contribution of JAC Group, Tatra Offroad Trucks Australia and European Beer & Liquor Importers (EBL).
