5th annual festival Vodafest in Melbourne

One of the largest Czech-Slovak festival in Australia - Vodafest 2015 was held in Melbourne on the 7 October 2015. Main organizer Ms Lenka Allen opened the festival together with ambassadors of Czech and Slovak Republic Mr.Martin Pohl and Mr.Igor Bartho. Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic in Melbourne, Mr Milan Kantor was also an important guest at the festival.
 
 

As part of the cultural program of the festival there were performances of Children from Czech schools in Melbourne under the direction of Ms.Zuzana Vasitch with songs and dances, the folklore group of children from the Slovak school in Melbourne and many other music and dance groups from Melbourne (eg. Blue Vintage Music, Dance Group Liptar etc.) Ms. Bohdana Šolcová acting this year as seconded teacher of teh Czech and Slovak community in Australia, sang the Czech and Moravian folk songs and played the bagpipes.Czech Children's Philharmonic Choir, which performed a few folk songs and dances received a great response from the audience of almost 1000 people.

The highlight of the program was the first joint public appearance of Czech Children's Philharmonic Choir and popular Czech band Chinaski, who played at the festival as a part of their tour of Australia.

The program of the festival was very entertaining and even the youngest visitors were kept occupied with workshops, cartoons characters and jumping castles.

There were stands with tourist information about Czech and Slovak Republics, exhibition of Czech and Slovak folklore costumes and crafts, visitors had a chance to taste Czech culinary specialities, Czech Beer and Tasmanian wine from the Czech winemaker Josef Chromy.
