Taipei Flooded by Books

Another year of an impressive event – Taipei International Book Exhibition – was launched in the exhibition premises of Taipei World Trade Center on Tuesday February 12, 2019, and it included the presentation of Czech literature, too.

TIBE is highly popular in Taiwan. No wonder – there are about 3500 bookstores, around 9000 publishing houses and tens of thousands books come out every year. Not only professionals, but mainly the most important persons – free-time readers – could get acquainted with the newest releases from all over the world, visit a series of accompanying events on several stages and enjoy the fantastic presentation of the Guest of Honour for this year – Germany.

The Czech literature presentation is composed mainly of the collection called Most Beautiful Czech Book 2017 kindly lent by the Museum of Czech Literature and there are also the books translated into traditional Chinese in the past on display. Associate professor of the Czech language and a translator of the pieces by Václav Havel and Bohumil Hrabal Ms. Melissa Lin delivered a superb lecture on the theme of Czech literature in the Taiwanese context.

There was one noticable newcomer in this year´s international section, which caught the attention of both professionals and children readers – Albatros. We are pleased to note that the number of Czech authors´ books translated into traditional Chinese is yet to grow. If you missed it, you will have another chance next year.
