The celebration of Europe Day started on 9 May at 12:00 in Tallinn and other cities – in Happsalu, Jõhvi, Kuressaare, Kärdla, Pärnu, Põlva and Võru. To honor the Mother's Day at the same time, floral decorations were created in the central squares of the participating towns, which were symbolically in the national colors of the EU and Estonia.

The Estonian Representation of the European Commission commemorated Europe Day with an orienteering game using a mobile application – the participants could get acquainted with the EU countries not in stands or on billboards as in previous years, but virtually.

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic was warmly welcomed by Hergo Tasuja, Deputy Governor of Hiiumaa, and Karin Kokla, Head of the Education and Culture Department of the Municipality Government and the Europe Direct Hiiumaa Information Center. Thanks to the live broadcast of the opening ceremony, the celebration of Europe Day reached another 132 citizens online.

In his speech, Ambassador David Král emphasized the 17-year membership of the Czech Republic and Estonia in the European Union and the common values ​​on which the organization was based. He also highly appreciated the beauty of the island and recalled the former wool factory that laid the foundation of the town of Kärdla.

This year, the Estonian Representation of the European Commission has involved the Ambassadors of the EU countries in a very innovative and active way. The Czech Embassy would like to express its special thanks to the organizing committee of Europe Day in Hiiumaa, thanks to which this event took place in Kärdla, beautiful capital of this island.
