State Reception on the Occasion of the Czech Statehood Day at the Estonian War Museum, Viimsi

On September 29, 2021, the state reception to mark the Day of Czech Statehood took place at the Estonian War Museum at Viimsi. The state reception took place after two years, as in 2020 it could not be held because of the pandemic situation worsening.

The reception was attended also by H. E. Mr. Kalle Laanet, the Minister of Defence, who also delivered short speeches. Statements were further made by H. E. Mr. David Král, Czech Ambassador to Estonia, and Lt. Col. Mr. David Pastyřík, Head of the Office of Military and Air Attaché in Tallinn.

Ambassador Král in his statement explained that the Czech statehood is much older than the history of modern Czechoslovakia and that of its successor, the Czech Republic, and is ultimately linked to the Patron Saint of Bohemia – St Wenceslas. Despite the fact that historically Estonia did not have such strong links with Czechia compared to e.g. its links to Nordic countries, the 20th century history of both states is very much alike. These days, both countries are like-minded partners in both the EU and NATO. You can read full text of Ambassador´s speech here (available in English only).

Lt. Col. Pastyřík then elaborated by explaining the role of Czechoslovak legions in the foundations of modern Czechoslovakia and spoke of the unique role of Mrs Magda Remelgas in creating a link between the two newly independent states of Czechoslovakia and Estonia (see also the article about her decoration). He invited the guests to an exhibition put together by the Association of Czechoslovak Legionaries which was open at the War Museum on the  occasion of the state reception, marking the 100th anniversary of the Association´s foundation. The full text of the speech can be found here (available in English only).

During the subsequent buffet dinner, traditional Czech  goulash was served, along with Czech beer and Moravian wine.
