Czech Embassy hosted a lunch of EU diplomats with Prime Minister Kaja Kallas

On 4 November 2022, the Czech Embassy in Estonia,  representing the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU, hosted a lunch of EU Ambassadors (both resident and non-resident) in Tallinn with a special guest of honour: the Prime Minister of the Republic of Estonia, H.E. Ms Kaja Kallas.

These meetings are normally organized by the rotating EU Presidency in the capitals of all other EU Member States with leading political figures of the host country. Under the current Czech chairmanship, it was the second such meeting, after a lunch in which the Czech Embassy in Tallinn hosted the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, H. E. Mr Urmas Reinsalu in September.

The meeting provided a platform for a very informative and frank exchange of opinions between the Prime Minister and the EU diplomatic corps. It touched on the recent achievements of the EU – support of Ukraine, curbing energy prices and improving Union´s energy security or the inaugural summit of the European Political Community in Prague in early October 2022, as well as topical or strategic issues in current international relations, such as the Russian aggression against Ukraine, NATO or China. The ambassadors also had a chance to learn about Prime Minister´s reflections on the domestic political situation in Estonia ahead of the upcoming general elections in March 2023 and discuss the government´s policy on some hot issues, such as energy prices, high inflation or the education system reform.

The next similar activity will take place in mid December when the Czech Embassy will host a lunch with the President of Estonia Alar Karis.
