The exhibition of Czech castles and chateaux opens in Kuressaare

On 22 June 2022, Ambassador David Král and the Mayor of Saaremaa Madis Kallas opened the exhibition of the Czech Castles and Chateaux at the Kuressaare Castle, organized by the Czech Embassy in Tallinn in co-operation with the Saaremaa Museum.

Kuressaare represents already the fourth location in Estonia after Tartu, the Vihula manor and Viljandi where visitors can admire the treasures of  Bohemian and Moravian history that form an indispensable part of the country´s landscape.

The exhibition will be desplayed here until 31 August and thus will provide an excellent opportunity for many people to see it during the summer season when the population of Saaremaa doubles with an influx of tourists from both Estonia and abroad. We hope it will serve as an invitation to visit Czechia and admire its historical landmarks from different historical periods. The exhibition features a selection of 16 castles across the country and has been put together by the Czech National Museum. If you are planning to visit the island during the summer season, do not miss it!

The opening took place one day ahead of the Victory Day Parade which is held in different places in Estonia every year and this year it was taking place at Saaremaa. Ambassador  David Král and Defence Attaché Lt Col David Pastyřík first participated in a reception hosted by the Minister of Defence of Estonia Mr Kalle Laanet just after the opening of the exhibition.

The parade itself took place on 23 June and was attended by prominent Estonian personalities, including President of Estonia Alar Karis, President of Riigikogu Jüri Ratas and Minister of Defence Kalle Laanet, as well as members of the diplomatic corps and defence attachés corps including representatives of the Czech Embassy.

Main speeches were delivered by President Karis and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence League Riho Ühtegi. President Karis in his speech underlined the need for defence readiness in deteriorating security environment, as well as the need for a continuous support of Ukraine who is facing brutal, unjustified aggression by the Russian Federation. A traditional element of the parade was when President lit the victory flame torches which are subsequently taken to all the Estonian counties.
