Closing conference for „Towards Roma Inclusion in Georgia“ project

On 27 October 2016, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia Tomáš Pernický together with State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Ms Ketevan Tsikelashvili and Governor of Kvemo Kartli region Paata Khizanishvili attended a conference to conclude the project entitled „Towards Roma Inclusion in Georgia“, implemented within the so-called small local transition projects financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

During the closing conference Ambassador Tomáš Pernický presented awards to four journalists whose products won the media competition for best TV/Radio reports, web and newspaper articles aimed at raising public awareness about the problems of the Roma community living in Georgia.

The aim of the project was also to increase the possibilities of Roma youth employment in Georgia. Four young Roma women from the town of Kobuleti in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara have undergone vocational training in hairdressing skills and one young Roma man (also from Kobuleti) has been trained in bartending profession. All five beneficiaries received special prizes from the hands of Ambassador Tomáš Pernický: instruments and tools which they can use in the future for their employment.
