Czech Embassy hosted en event to mark poet Rustaveli and translator Jaromír Jedlička

On 7 April 2017 the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tbilisi hosted an event to commemorate medieval Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli and translator Jaromír Jedlička who translated Rustaveli´s epic poem The Knight in the Panther´s Skin into Czech in the 1950´s. The event was organized by Golden Prague association of Czech compatriots in Georgia, headed by its Chairman Harold Šmalcel.
 

The evening ceremony was opened by Ambassador Tomáš Pernický. The significance of Rustaveli, poet at Queen Tamar´s court, and the Georgian national epic poem The Knight in the Panther´Skin of the late 12th century, was the topic of lectures given by academicians and university professors; excerpts from the poem in Georgian and Czech were read by students of Czech language in Golden Prague association and a short theatrical performace was given by students of Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film University. Among the guests was Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Tamaz Marsagishvili.
