World War II veteran Irakli Kandareli (93) receives financial gift

On Saturday 27 May 2017, Deputy of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Mr. Václav Klučka accompanied by Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Georgia Tomáš Pernický and Defence Attaché Lt Col Štefan Grivalský visited the 93-year-old World War II veteran Irakli Kandareli in the town of Gori. In April and May of 1945, Mr. Kandareli took part in the liberation of several cities in the present day Moravian-Silesian Region and is now the only living Honorary Citizen of the city of Opava. He is also a Honorary Citizen of Ostrava, Olomouc and several other cities.
 

During the visit Deputy Václav Klučka gave Mr. Irakli Kandareli a financial gift of CZK 10 000 from the Statutory City of Opava, another financial gift of CZK 5 000 from Ostrava citizen Mr. Petr Menkina as well as CZK 1 000 from Mrs Věra Tvarůžková of the Czechoslovak Association of Legionaries in Opava.
