Delegation of Czech Committee on Environment of the Chamber of Deputies on a working visit to Georgia

A Delegation of the Committee on Environment of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, headed by the Committee Chair Mrs. Dana Balcarová, visited Georgia on September 5 - 11, 2018. Members of the delegation were Mr. Jaroslav Holík, Deputy Chairman of the Committee, MEPs Karla Maříková and František Elfmark.

The delegation was received by Giorgi Volski, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Kacha Kuchava, Chairman of the Committee on Environment protection and Natural Resources, with Mr. Akaki Zoidze, Chairman of Health and Social Affairs Committee and Mr. Roman Kakulia, Chairman of the Committee on Sectoral Economics and Economic Policy.

The level of Czech-Georgian bilateral relations with a focus on the deepening of the existing cooperation in environmental issues was also discussed with the first Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Nodar Kereselidze and Deputy of the same ministry Nino Tandilashvili. Other issues were discussed with the leaderships of the National Forestry Agency and with Agency of Protected Areas subsequently. Finally, plans for development projects on territory of Aragvi Protected Landscape were discussed with Mr. Shalva Kereselidze, Governor of the Mtskheta-Tianeti region.  

During its stay in Georgia, the delegation of the Chamber of Deputies has been acquainted with the Czech development projects implemented in mountainous area Tusheti aimed at managing the protected landscape area, developing small business and introducing forestry management. The delegation members hiked along one of the many tourist routes marked by volunteers from the Czech Republic within the Czech development cooperation project. The delegation also visited a development project focused on capacity building of the cave management in Imereti region.

Reinforcement of good relations between both parliaments was one of the main results of the visit. Furthermore, the support of ongoing and planned projects of the Czech Development Cooperation was enhanced by all partners that the delegation met in Georgia.
