The Director General of the National Library of the Czech Republic, PhDr. Martin Kocanda, and Secretary for Science, Research and International Relations, Mgr. Adolf Knoll, visited the National Library and Archive of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran on 24-26 April 2018. During the visit, several events took place: a discussion with Mr. Gholamreza Amirkhani, a representative of the National Library and Archive of Iran, a tour of the National Library and Archive, a visit to the Book Garden exhibition grounds, and Shahid Beheshti documentation centre of Tehran University. On the occasion of the Czech visit, a seminar was held presenting the Czech National Library and its activities as well as the ongoing digitization process and digital access to cultural heritage. Cooperation with the National Library and Archive of the Islamic Republic of Iran dates back to the middle of the last decade; two Memoranda of Understanding have been signed between the two institutions and cooperation will continue to develop. Emphasis was placed on the expansion and improvement of Iranian studies in the Czech Republic, which is currently offered only by Charles University in Prague. Interest in this expansion is shared by both sides. In December 2018, the Iranian National Library and Archive will organize an event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of the famous Czech orientalist Jan Rypka.
