In January 2017, the new Cultural Centre for Youth was opened in the town of Soleimankhani in the Tehran province.
The Centre offers a wide spectrum of cultural and social activities for Afghan refugees living in the province. The construction of the centre was co-sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic’s humanitarian aid fund granted to the UNHCR in 2016 to support Afghan refugees in Iran and help improve their living conditions (the total amount reached 100 000 USD). The Cultural Centre in Soleimankhani is the first project completed through the use of this fund. The Centre is now administered by the Iranian Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants Affairs (BAFIA) and represents the biggest and most significant platform for refugee community gatherings in the whole province providing also the counselling in fields of communication with authorities, healthcare and education.
