Czech ambassador visits the Center for Women and Children of Rebirth Society, Iranian NGO, supported this year by the Czech Republic

On 11 November, diplomats of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tehran including its Ambassador Josef Rychtar, visited the Center for Women and Children of Rebirth Society, a non-profit non-governmental organization based in Tehran. The Center was in 2020 supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic in the framework of Czech foreign development cooperation, and as part of the annual Czech assistance to so called small local projects.

Rebirth Society is a respected organization as well as one of the biggest and most experienced non-profits based in Iran. It provides assistance to drug addicts and people undergoing treatment from the addiction, and the organization is active in majority of Iran's provinces. According to Iranian authorities, it is estimated that up to 3 % of the population of the country may be addicted to various drugs and opioids.

In 2020, the Czech Republic has contributed to Rebirth Society's Center for Women and Children in Tehran by the amount of approximately 11 000 USD. For this amount equipment including ACs, refrigerators or beds for the clients of the Center could be purchased. During the visit of the Centre, Ambassador Rychtar had a good opportunity to discuss the activities of Rebirth Society, as well as the current situation in the field of drug addiction in Iran, with the Director of the organization Mr. Abbas Deilamizade. The Czech Ambassador expressed to him a high appreciation of the invaluable work done by Rebirth Society and its employees.
