Long-term visa / residence permit information

You can find information about long-term visa / residence permit applications on the websites of the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. Below you can find links and list of requirements. Be informed that due to the COVID-19 pandemics there are changes in required documents and the visa services are limited.

Long-term visa and residence permit can be filed by applicants who wish to reside in the Czech Republic for over 90 days. These applications should be filed at the Embassy of the Czech Republic. Please arrange your appointment accordingly.

The competent body for processing and decision making of applications is the Ministry of Interior. The Czech Embassy is only competent for receiving an application for a long-term visa/residence permit and communication with the applicant. The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tehran is competent for application for visas of citizens of Islamic Republic of Iran and those who have a valid Iranian residence permit with validity for more than 1 year.

Required documents:

  • Application form
  • Travel document
  • 2 passport photos (size 35 x 45 mm)
  • Fee
  • Biometrics – finger prints
  • Proof of accommodation (should be for the whole duration of planned stay)
  • Document on the purpose of stay (e.g. acceptance letter, contract, etc.)
  • Proof of funds (e.g. bank statement)
  • Proof of no criminal record (see below)
  • Travel medical insurance (once visa has been approved; limit must be at least EUR 60 000)

To smooth the long-term visa procedures please bring original documents and photocopies of all required documents.

Applicants for Schengen visas and long-term visas and residence permits for purposes of economic and education activities are obliged to submit, upon lodging the application document on fulfilling requirements against introduction of infectious disease.

The document is required before the visa can be issued for the following applications:

The document is to be issued by the receiving entity in the Czech Republic, i.e. employer or school (university).

The requirement is anchored in point I.5 of the Protective Measure of the Ministry of Health from July 17, 2020, and § 31.3.b) of the Act on Stay of Foreign Nationals.

Proof of no criminal record

The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tehran in accordance with Article 31 para. 3 letter a) Act no. 326/1999 Sb., on the Residence of Foreign Nationals in the Czech Republic asks all applicants for long-term visa / residence permit, who will submit their application at this consular office  to submit together with the application also the proof of no criminal record issued by the country of which is the applicant citizen and also the same document issued by all countries where the applicant lived for more than 6 months in the last 3 years. In case the country does not issue such document, a sworn statement should be submitted instead.
